Secure S
Strengths
- [Name] critically evaluates [his/her/their] own performance using feedback and results, then adapts [his/her/their] practice independently to tackle the weaknesses identified.

Next steps:

Developing D

Next steps:
- Using a simple diagram of the court or pitch, [Name] could mark where to stand in attack and in defence before trying it in a game.
Support at home

How to write physical education comments for S3
- In S3, describe how the pupil analyses performance, such as identifying a strength and a weakness in their own technique and setting a goal. A target such as using feedback to improve one part of a skill is clear.
- Comment on understanding of fitness and training, such as explaining why we warm up or how a training method improves an aspect of fitness. Describe the knowledge, never the pupil's own fitness or body.
- Mention leadership and officiating where the pupil has tried them, such as refereeing a small-sided game or coaching a partner. A next step might be leading part of a lesson.
Watch out: Avoid comments on a pupil's body, weight, appearance or natural sporting talent. Describe skills, decisions and understanding shown in lessons, so every pupil gets a next step they can work on.
The four levels describe how secure, accurate and independent the learning is in what has been taught, never a CfE level. Secure suits detailed, accurate work applied to unfamiliar tasks; Consolidating suits a sound grasp with occasional guidance; Developing suits sometimes, or with a model or worked example; Beginning names what is starting to show and the support that helps. Show the level through the work rather than writing the level word.
