How to write personal effectiveness comments for Years 3-6
- Cite how the learner acts on feedback: does a written comment or peer suggestion show up in the next piece of work? Naming one change gives families something concrete to look for.
- Reflection in Years 3-6 often happens through self-assessment or a reflection journal. Comment on whether the learner's reflections are honest and lead to action, not just whether they were written.
- Mention responsibility for homework, reading and belongings, and how the learner responds when something is forgotten. For Year 6, coping with change ahead of the move to secondary school also fits here.
Watch out: Keep wellbeing comments factual and gentle. Do not label anxiety or hint at a diagnosis; describe the situation, what the learner does and the strategy that helps, and discuss deeper concerns with parents and carers in person.
Let the rating shape the wording. Consistently suits reliably, independently and without being asked; Usually suits regularly and with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times and with some support; Not yet names what the learner can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the rating through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
