How to write collaboration and citizenship comments for Years 3-6
- Name a role the learner took in group work, such as scribe, timekeeper or reporter, and how they handled it. Rotating roles is a useful next step for those who dominate or hold back.
- Credit contributions beyond the classroom, such as school council, the eco committee, digital leaders, playground buddies or fundraising. For a learner rated Consistently, a next step could be leading one project.
- Peer assessment shows respect in action: does the learner give kind, specific feedback and take suggestions on board? Behaviour on school devices, such as following online safety rules, also belongs here.
Watch out: Avoid judging collaboration by friendship groups alone. A learner with one close friend may still work fairly in any group, so describe teamwork in mixed groups and how disagreements are handled.
Let the rating shape the wording. Consistently suits reliably, independently and without being asked; Usually suits regularly and with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times and with some support; Not yet names what the learner can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the rating through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
