How to write creativity and innovation comments for Years 3-6
- Look at the choices learners make in projects and homework, such as picking a poster, model or short film and explaining why it suits the audience. Name the format so the comment feels specific.
- Comment on how the learner responds to peer feedback on a creative piece. Does the second draft show a real change? Redrafting with purpose is the clearest sign of developing ideas in Years 3-6.
- Credit creativity outside art and writing too, such as an original approach in a science investigation or a new rule invented for a PE game. It shows the skill works across Areas of Learning and Experience.
Watch out: Avoid treating creativity as neat presentation or artistic talent. A beautifully coloured poster may contain no new idea, so describe the idea, the risk taken or the improvement made.
Let the rating shape the wording. Consistently suits reliably, independently and without being asked; Usually suits regularly and with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times and with some support; Not yet names what the learner can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the rating through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
