How to write collaboration and citizenship comments for Reception-Year 2
- Describe turn-taking in a concrete setting: snack time, the outdoor area or a game on the carpet. A next step such as rehearsing 'Can I have a turn?' is easy to practise at home.
- For kindness, note one moment you saw, such as comforting a friend or including someone new in a game. A single example says more to families than a general word like caring.
- Contributing at this age means class jobs and shared spaces: tidy-up time, watering plants or being helper of the day. Mention one job the child takes on for the good of the class.
Watch out: Avoid judging collaboration by friendship groups alone. A learner with one close friend may still work fairly in any group, so describe teamwork in mixed groups and how disagreements are handled.
Let the rating shape the wording. Consistently suits reliably, independently and without being asked; Usually suits regularly and with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times and with some support; Not yet names what the learner can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the rating through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
