Tips for openers and closers
- In the fall written learning update, openers describe settling into routines and early observations, since evidence is still building. Closers can name one competency you will watch before the next update.
- In the winter or spring update, the opener can note growth since fall, such as a new routine or role. The closer can link to a goal the student set in their self-assessment.
- In the June summary of learning, the opener looks back over the whole year and the closer wishes the family a good summer break and points to the next grade. Keep both short to leave room for evidence.
