How to write social awareness and responsibility comments for K-Grade 3
- Use recess and play as evidence: inviting someone into a game, comforting a classmate, or sharing a turn on the swings. Name one kind act you saw rather than calling the child nice.
- Contribution at this age is small and concrete: doing a class job, caring for class plants, or picking up litter during outdoor learning. Mention the job and how the child does it.
- For valuing diversity, describe what the child does, such as welcoming a new classmate or showing interest when a friend shares words in another language, without commenting on anyone's background.
Watch out: Avoid treating popularity or a wide friend group as this facet. Having many friends is not the same as social responsibility; describe respectful actions and contributions, which quieter students show too.
The proficiency scale is used for learning standards; here its four names only label levels of written feedback on a Core Competency facet. Extending-level wording describes depth, independence and new situations; Proficient, regular use in familiar ones; Developing, parts of the facet with support; Emerging, first steps with guidance. Add the evidence instead of restating a level, so the comment never reads as a grade.
