How to write respect and responsibility comments for P1-P3
- Tie respect to a setting: lining up, the dinner hall, golden time or caring for shared toys. Parents can then picture where kindness comes easily and where gentle reminders still help.
- Refer to the class charter in simple terms, such as taking turns so everyone gets a chance. Keep rights language concrete for young children rather than quoting articles or documents.
- For owning choices, describe what the child does after a mistake, such as saying sorry or helping to tidy up. A next step can name one calm-down strategy or a kind way to put things right.
Watch out: Avoid recounting individual incidents or sanctions in the report. Summarise the pattern and the support in place, for example reminders at interval, and discuss specific events with parents and carers directly.
Let the level shape the wording. Secure suits consistently, independently and without being asked; Consolidating suits usually and with growing confidence; Developing suits sometimes and with reminders; Beginning names what the pupil can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the level through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
