How to write collaboration and communication comments for Years 7-8
- Year 7 classes often mix students from many primary schools. Describe how the student works with classmates they did not know before, and whether they include others in group tasks and share the work fairly.
- Give younger students a concrete speaking target, such as speaking loudly enough for the whole room in a short presentation, or building on a classmate's point before adding their own.
- Peer support programs, house activities and camps show collaboration outside lessons. If the student helped a group on camp or took a role in a house event, a brief mention adds a fair picture.
Watch out: Avoid judging collaboration by how the group's product turned out. A polished result can hide one student doing most of the work, so describe this student's own contribution, listening and follow-through.
Let frequency words carry the rating. Consistently suits reliably, independently or without being asked; Usually suits generally or with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times or when prompted. For Rarely, describe what is emerging and the support that helps, such as weekly check-ins with the year adviser. Show the behaviour you saw rather than restating the rating.
