How to write collaboration and communication comments for Years 9-10
- In Years 9 and 10, describe the quality of discussion: building an argument, responding respectfully to a counter-view and explaining reasoning. These same skills help on work experience placements and in interviews.
- For group assessment tasks, describe whether the student completed their share by the agreed time and helped the group plan. Leave the group's result out and comment only on the student's own contribution.
- Credit leadership roles such as SRC, house representative or peer support leader by saying what the student did in the role. For a student who holds back, suggest one manageable step, like presenting a group finding.
Watch out: Avoid judging collaboration by how the group's product turned out. A polished result can hide one student doing most of the work, so describe this student's own contribution, listening and follow-through.
Let frequency words carry the rating. Consistently suits reliably, independently or without being asked; Usually suits generally or with few reminders; Sometimes suits at times or when prompted. For Rarely, describe what is emerging and the support that helps, such as weekly check-ins with the year adviser. Show the behaviour you saw rather than restating the rating.
