How to write creativity and problem solving comments for P4-P7
- Look at reasoning: can the pupil explain why a method works, compare two approaches or spot a gap in an argument? Citing one task, such as a science investigation, makes the comment concrete.
- In projects and topic work, credit original ideas the group used and note how the pupil developed them. A next step might be planning two possible approaches before choosing one.
- Mention how the pupil applies new learning in a different context, such as using a research skill from one topic in another. Transfer like this shows understanding rather than simple recall.
Watch out: Avoid treating creativity as artistic talent alone. Neat drawings or crafts say little about problem solving, so describe an idea, a strategy or an explanation the pupil produced in any area of learning.
Let the level shape the wording. Secure suits consistently, independently and without being asked; Consolidating suits usually and with growing confidence; Developing suits sometimes and with reminders; Beginning names what the pupil can do with adult support or a visual prompt. Show the level through one behaviour you have seen rather than repeating the word itself.
