Tips for openers and closers
- In the fall written learning update, openers describe how the student has settled into the year and the learning so far, since evidence is still building. Closers can name what you will focus on before the next update.
- In the winter or spring update, the opener can note growth since fall across several subjects. Keep it short so the space goes to the descriptive feedback for each area of learning.
- In the June summary of learning, the opener looks back over the whole year and the closer wishes the family a good summer break and points to the next grade. Neither should restate a proficiency scale indicator.
