How to write food and nutrition comments for KS4 (Years 10-11)
- For the food investigation, comment on how the student plans a fair experiment, records results and explains them with food science, such as why kneading develops gluten in a bread dough.
- For the food preparation task, describe planning and execution: a realistic time plan, a range of skills shown and dishes presented with care. A target such as building in time for finishing is practical.
- Theory feedback can name a specific area, such as the functions of ingredients, food provenance or diet through life, and suggest a short self-quiz routine using the student's own revision notes.
Watch out: Avoid commenting on a student's own eating, weight or body, or on whether they liked a dish. Describe skills, safe practice and understanding, such as explaining why an ingredient behaves as it does.
The four levels describe how secure, accurate and independent the learning is, never a grade. Excellent suits precise, perceptive work that applies ideas to unfamiliar contexts; Good suits usually accurate with occasional guidance; Developing suits sometimes, or with a worked example; Needs support names what is emerging and the help that works. Show the level through the work rather than writing the level word.
