How to write PSHE and RSHE comments for KS2 (Years 3-6)
- Lower KS2 comments can mention calming strategies, resolving disagreements in role play, or saving and spending; upper KS2 comments can mention spotting misinformation, reporting unsafe online behaviour, basic first aid and budgeting.
- Describe how the child contributes to discussion: giving a reasoned view, listening when classmates disagree, or applying a strategy to a new scenario. This shows understanding without revealing anything personal.
- Keep sensitive topics general. Write about understanding respectful relationships or online safety without mentioning any disclosure, wellbeing concern or family circumstance; those belong in a conversation, not a report.
Watch out: Avoid turning a PSHE comment into a behaviour or wellbeing report. A Developing comment should describe learning still in progress, such as naming ways to keep personal information private online.
The scale describes how independently the child shows the learning. Extending suits independently, applies it in new contexts and explains reasoning; Confident suits usually and with occasional support; Developing suits sometimes, or with a model or word mat; Beginning names what the child does with adult support. Show the point through one piece of learning rather than writing the scale word itself.
