Next step
- A next step is to talk about one way a character in a religious story cares for others, using a picture to help.
Support at home

How to write RE comments for KS1 (Years 1-2)
- Name a story, festival or special object the child can talk about, such as a menorah or the story of Rama and Sita, and what it means to believers. Describe learning about religions, not the child's own beliefs.
- Comment on simple comparisons, such as two festivals of light or two special places. Noticing similarities and differences is a foundation for later RE and easy to show in one sentence.
- Use phrases such as 'Christians believe' or 'some people' when describing practices. This models respectful language and keeps the comment neutral about families' own views.
Watch out: Avoid assuming or describing the child's own faith or practice, or suggesting families practise a religion. Keep to what the child has learned about religions and worldviews and how they discuss them.
The scale describes how independently the child shows the learning. Extending suits independently, applies it in new contexts and explains reasoning; Confident suits usually and with occasional support; Developing suits sometimes, or with a model or word mat; Beginning names what the child does with adult support. Show the point through one piece of learning rather than writing the scale word itself.
